May the Fourth is just around the corner. Of course, this means a new round of rumors, news, and events, for the iconic franchise. Love it or hate it, Star Wars could arguably have one of the most divisive fan bases in the world. It also has another unique trait. Quite often, the villains, or anti-heroes, gain more popularity than expected. In turn, this leads to greater inclusion in other projects. The Mandalorian in itself is an example of that. This particular race was introduced via the brief scenes of bounty hunter Boba Fett. The fascination for this character, and race, has spawned a plethora of stories that led to the Disney+ show.

The latest rumor comes from another character who gained fame and then was gone. Darth Maul’s pivotal role in The Phantom Menace was another moment similar to Boba Fett’s. His character, though killed, went on to be featured in...

Unless its through flashbacks, he will not be returning. Obi-Wan killed him in Star Wars: Rebels. I can't see them doing yet another "he's not really dead" maneuver again. He was thought to have died in Episode I. He was thought to have died again in The Clone Wars only to show up again in Rebels. He was pretty definitively killed in Rebels.

I agree on both fronts. It'd be ridiculous to bring him back from the dead again. It would also be stupid to retcon any part of the his story that's been laid out. I've actually found the overall development for his character to be pretty cool. Been re-watching Rebels lately and have really enjoyed the story-arc his character took there. It also leaves enough things open that any number of flashbacks could happen.

wait, didn't obi-wan kill him in Episode 1 the first time also? Right after darth maul killed Qui?

It seemed that way, but Maul turned up in the Clone Wars TV show. His body atrophied, aged and attached to prosthetic spider legs. Initially he was rambling and insane, but straightened out when he was rebuilt by the Witches of Dathomir with sort of weird cybernetic monster legs. In a fight with Obi-Wan, he lost a leg (again) and his brother Savage Oppress lost an arm. Both were given new cybernetic augmentation when rescued a short time later. Maul was given more humanoid looking cybernetic legs and Savage was given a pretty standard cybernetic arm.

However, Maul would eventually attract Palpatine's attention. He faced the Sith Lord in combat where he was defeated and his brother killed almost instantly. Maul escaped, though how he did so was never seen. Maul would show up in the Solo movie in a brief cameo. Later, he turned up again in Star Wars Rebels a couple times. He fought some inquisitors and got out of there roughly when Vader showed up. He would later track down Obi-Wan where the two fought for the final time. He clearly dies on screen in this final appearance.
