Will AMD’s heavily anticipated third-generation Ryzen series include a 16-core chip? That certainly looks to be the case, as prolific hardware leaker APISAK has detailed an engineering sample with that very core count, suggesting 32 threads. It flaunts a 3.3GHz base clock and 4.2GHz boost clock.
The chip was running on a mystery X570 motherboard. These new Zen 2-based Ryzen parts apparently contend well with their current, second-generation multicore-monster Threadripper CPUs. As Hot Hardware points out for reference, the 2950X (Zen+) has a base clock of 3.5GHz and boost clock of 4.4GHz.
Up until this point, it's been confirmed that Ryzen 3000 processors would be available with up to 8 cores, and AMD CEO Lisa Su hinted that we'd see Ryzen processors with a greater number of cores available. We’ve seen some early engineering samples kicking around with 12 cores, and now we're getting additional evidence that 16-core Ryzen 3000 processors will be available.
