Due to declining popularity, DICE has removed the “Duo” mode in Battlefield V’s take on battle royale, Firestorm. This was a game type that allowed players to team up with another friend, but now, Firestorm players are left with two options: Solo or Squad.

In a post on the official Battlefield forums, DICE justified its removal by claiming that most people preferred to play in squads. They also reminded fans that Duo was originally meant to be a limited-time event.

Regardless, Duo fans have voiced their displeasure, some of whom say it’s the only game mode that keeps them interested in the shooter. This is actually the second time DICE has removed Duo, but whether they will bring it back (again) is anyone’s guess.

Duo received an overwhelmingly positive reaction at launch. It debuted during a weekend, and was initially done so only as an early first look at the mode. Duo was originally designed as a limited time offering similar to Grind and Rush, and featured as limited time content in Chapter 3. When Duo was first removed, you told us that you wanted to see it come back and we were happy to support. Since then, we’ve seen more folks jump back into Squads mode, with less preferring to Firestorm it up in Duo - so we’re going to get back to the original plan today and we’ve disabled it’s matchmaking.
