  1. Squadron 42: Star Citizen’s Single-Player Mode Could Be Years from Release, Warns Cloud Imperium

While I haven't looked into it a whole lot, most of what I found in a quick search says that Lumberyard is basically CryEngine with AWS features added to it.
  2. ASRock 600-Series Motherboards to Feature Base Frequency Boost for 12th Gen Intel Core Non-K CPUs

Well, Intel CPU's have had internal clock generators for awhile. Motherboard manufacturers have provided external clock generators for some time. Anytime you saw motherboards advertising BCLK adjustability from 100-400MHz back in the Z170 days etc. it was running one of those clock generators...
  3. Smart Guns Are Coming to the U.S. This Year

I'm not entirely against the idea of this to some degree. However, there are a number of challenges with it. First and foremost, if this gains any traction the problem you'll have is that retrofits to existing designs will almost be pointless as they'll be defeated simply by taking the gun apart...
  4. ASRock 600-Series Motherboards to Feature Base Frequency Boost for 12th Gen Intel Core Non-K CPUs

As a side note, base clock tuning and whether or not you can get anywhere with it depends on a lot of factors. Various platforms, chipsets and CPU's respond to this differently. I've never tried base clock tuning with Alder Lake-S and the 600 series chipsets so I can't speak to how we'll they'll...
  5. Squadron 42: Star Citizen’s Single-Player Mode Could Be Years from Release, Warns Cloud Imperium

They ditched CryEngine 3 or whatever it was originally and moved to Lumberyard. (Which itself is basically CryEngine with additional features.) This made the switch go pretty smoothly for the released alpha's of the game as I recall.
  6. ASRock 600-Series Motherboards to Feature Base Frequency Boost for 12th Gen Intel Core Non-K CPUs

Sort of. Base clock or "BCLK" tuning has never really been a thing. Bus tuning was popular from the beginning of the PC all the way up to the Core 2 Quad CPU's. The latter of which used a front side bus or "FSB". Tuning with this method produced good results. This went away with the introduction...
  7. GOG Is Giving Away 30 Free Games

I've only heard of a handful of those titles. I've only played a couple of the games on that list.
  8. Oh now this is cute

I'm on Alder Lake and haven't made the switch yet. This is one of the reasons why.
  9. Report: Knights of the Old Republic Remake to Feature Combat Inspired by God of War, Nioh 2

KOTOR 2 had a lot taken out of it, but that was all cut for time due to the rushed release date of the project. That content really didn't need to be written as parts of it are in the game. I'm not 100% sure its all there but a significant portion of that content is for sure. As far as I know...
  10. Dying Light 2 Will Take 500 Hours to “Fully Complete,” but Main Story Reportedly Lasts Only 20 Hours

The fact that the main story can be completed in 20 hours and you have another 480 hours of fetch quests and lower quality missions speaks volumes for the design of this game. Bargain bin for sure.
  11. GameStop Is Launching a Cryptocurrency Division and NFT Marketplace

NFT's are the gaming equivalent of rectal cancer. If Gamestop embraces this bullshit then it should change its slogan. "Power to the Corpos" or something.
  12. GIGABYTE Announces AORUS RGB DDR5 6000 MHz 32 GB Memory Kit

Because it's from GIGABYTE and for no other reason. It looks like premium memory, but I'm not impressed by the timings and it looks like they spent more money than they needed to on the packaging.
  13. Half-Life: Ray Traced Is an Updated Version of Valve’s Classic with Real-Time Path Tracing

I wish they'd stop this. Taking a 20+ year old game and adding ray tracing may make the game look better, but it's still a 25 year old game. It's like adding ray tracing to Pong. Is it better? Sure. Does it bring it up to modern standards? Hell no. It's like these 60+ year old women who get...
  14. Sega Will Avoid NFTs If They’re Perceived as a Money-Making Scheme

That's exactly what it is. They are only going to distance themselves from NFT's if NFT's are perceived to be cash grabs. The key word is "perceived." SEGA couldn't give two ****s if they are actually greedy bullshit or not. It's whether or not the customer seems them as bad that matters.
  15. Sega Will Avoid NFTs If They’re Perceived as a Money-Making Scheme

That's exactly what they are. They are a way of creating scarcity for something that can basically replicated for free infinitely. It's one thing to charge for software development and for making a profit on a game, but quite another to charge for digital art and make it artificially rare...
  16. Dying Light 2 Will Take 500 Hours to “Fully Complete,” but Main Story Reportedly Lasts Only 20 Hours

To be frank, that's bullshit. That's a lot of side content which is usually bland filler. Cyberpunk 2077 did a decent job with it, but even then the whole game takes only about 120 hours to do everything. Most open world games are too bland and generic to sustain that kind of play time. I'm...
  17. Acer Announces 48-Inch Predator CG48 Gaming Monitor with OLED Panel

I've had a 48" and a 49" TV as monitors before. I'm currently on a 43". For productivity, it's just too much area for my eyes without font scaling and I hate that. For gaming, it's perfectly fine.
  18. GIGABYTE Announces AORUS RGB DDR5 6000 MHz 32 GB Memory Kit

That's all well and good, but until I can buy it for MSRP I'm not exactly excited about it. Still, it's good looking RAM. Although, the timings on the G.Skill TridentZ5 modules are better. (CL36 vs. CL40.)
  19. Acer Announces 48-Inch Predator CG48 Gaming Monitor with OLED Panel

48" is a bit on the large side for a monitor as far as I am concerned. 40-43" is about perfect for me. I might go for it but that price tab blows. I can't see why I'd buy this over the LG 48CX. Granted, the specs might be a little nicer, but I'm not sure it would be worth the $1,000+ difference.
