More choices for price-conscious Ryzen fans may be on the way. APISAK has spotted a new 6C/6T Ryzen 5 chip, the 3500, which flaunts a base clock of 3.6 GHz and 4.1 GHz boost clock. The CPU is unique because it's the first third-gen Ryzen without simultaneous multi-threading (AMD's version of Intel's Hyper-Threading).
Despite the lack of SMT, the Ryzen 5 3500 should still be plenty capable with its generous core count. APISAK noted that the chip managed a 12,8XX score in 3DMark's Fire Strike test, which puts it ahead of Intel's 6C/6T Core i5-9400F (2.9 GHz to 4.1 GHz).
Pricing here will be key, though. The Core i5-9400F sells for $149. If the Ryzen 5 3500 does indeed perform better in many/most scenarios, AMD could get away with charging a higher price. For reference, the Ryzen 5 3600 sells for $199. Likewise, the Ryzen 5 3400G APU based on AMD's previous generation Zen+ architecture and with onboard graphics sells for $149.
