AMD’s Next Horizon E3 event ended with a very exciting announcement for Ryzen fans when Dr. Lisa Su introduced the world’s first 16-core gaming CPU, the Ryzen 9 3950X. This is the best that Zen 2 has to offer thus far for desktop users.

The 16-core/32-thread part features a base clock of 3.5 GHz and 4.7 GHz boost clock with 72 MB of total cache. TDP is a relatively modest 105 W.

It'll be available in September for $749.

Given how AMD rates its TDP, I'll reserve judgement on that. Everything else is definitely confirmed. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one of those.

This may be a good long term investment. It should handle things for 7 or 8 years.
