ASUS Details ROG Ally Features Ahead of Windows 11 Gaming Handheld’s Launch on May 11, 2023: “The Price Will Be Below $1,000”

ASUS has announced that it will be unveiling the full specifications and pricing for the ROG Ally, its first Windows gaming handheld, on May 11, 2023. The keynote will start at 10.00 a.m. Eastern Time (14.00 GMT), followed by a panel discussion with Shawn Yen, Product Management Director of Gaming Business Unit from ASUS; Roanne Sones, CVP, Head of Xbox Hardware; and Frank Azor, Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions and Gaming Marketing from AMD, and while the event is still just over two weeks away, ASUS has gone ahead and teased the features and specifications of the ROG Ally in a press release that can confirm many of the device's key features. Chief among those is a new Ryzen Z1 Series processor by AMD, a 120 Hz FHD (1080p) panel with FreeSync Premium support, up to 16 GB LPDDR5 dual channel RAM, and up to 512 GB of PCIe Gen 4 upgradeable storage.

You know this is why amd doesn't care about charging a lot for video cards. It makes the other product lines they serve even more popular. Between consoles and hand helds whg would amd care about charging a premium for consumer GPUs?
 
I never really got into the handheld gaming craze (I had a Switch and barely used it), but I've been thinking of picking this one up or a Steam deck at some point.

The first rumored price I saw was about $700 a few days ago, but I really didn't think it could be true. Well, apparently it IS going for that price, though I'm not sure if it's for the base model or the top of the line model. Still pretty good IMO.

Could this mean a lower priced Steam Deck?
 
Was feeling a little more curious about this and saw this review from The Verge.

What really caught my eye though was about midway through the above review they link to a previous story that explains how there's a PCIe x8 port that can link to an XG Mobile external GPU (laptop 4090 GPU). By the time it's all said and done the price is ridiculous but I'm always fascinated by mobile-to-desk applications. The part about the external GPU is about halfway through the following article.
