The Mouse House now has complete control of Hulu following a $5.8 billion deal with Comcast and NBCUniversal (NBCU). They’ll retain 33% ownership interest in the streaming service, but its fate now lies with Disney, which has a new business plan that could include launching the service in international markets.

Content from NBCU may disappear from Hulu in the coming future. That’s because Comcast has the option of canceling most of its licensing agreements in 2022, which it may very well do to prop up NBCUniversal’s upcoming streaming service for pay-TV subscribers. NBCU will also have the right to license Hulu exclusives to other services beginning next year.

“We are now able to completely integrate Hulu into our direct-to-consumer business and leverage the full power of The Walt Disney Company’s brands and creative engines to make the service even more compelling and a greater value for consumers,” Disney chairman/CEO Bob Iger said in a statement about the pact.
