Rumors have been circulating about Project Scarlett's dev kit being weaker than the PS5's, but any report alleging a performance disparity between the upcoming next-gen consoles should be taken with a grain of salt. That's according to The Verge's Tom Warren, who claims that few developers even have access to the new Xbox's dev kit, and what's out there is far from final. "Microsoft wants to surprise Sony this time."

…publishers and devs are probably using scaled-down Zen and Navi PC tech that approximates the console's power paired with the Xbox Development Kit (XDK). The XDK is tremendously versatile and flexible, allowing devs to make a singular game that's compatible with Xbox consoles, Windows 10 PCs, and soon, Project xCloud game streaming. Project Scarlett will fold into the XDK too and become a part of the Xbox family of consoles.

How does amd keeps things together being between this **** sandwich of 2 large competitors... Can't be fun at all.

It’s fun counting the Benjamins they are throwing at it though.

This is the funny part really. We know they are both using AMD, and more or less what tech AMD has to offer. The only way one console could be vastly more powerful than the other (barring just self-defeating choices by the opposing team) would be to greatly increase the power envelope, and then you have the issue of a space heater fitting into your entertainment center.

I dunno, aren't the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X more or less the same hardware? There's a decent disparity between their physical design and prowess.

PS4 Pro has 36 GPU CUs and 8G GDDR5, XB1X has 40 CUs and 12G GDDR5. XB1X has a bit faster clocks too.

Resulting hardware differences mean the XB1X peaks out around 175W, whereas the PS4Pro peaks around 155W.

Not certain the CUs are same generation - since there is a year between the two systems.
