Left 4 Dead 2 was released over a decade ago, but a third game is finally on its way. At least, that's what we were led to believe following Alvin Wang Graylin's recent awards keynote, in which the HTC executive showed off a slide mentioning "LFD3" for VR devices. Unfortunately, that exciting revelation has turned out to be quite the dud.
Graylin took to Twitter a few hours ago and admitted that Left 4 Dead 3 was just "personal speculation." Sadly, this is not a case of an insider accidentally leaking embargoed information, either, as Valve has confirmed to IGN that L4D3 doesn't exist.
"We’ve seen rumors to this effect for the last couple of months,” Valve said in a statement. “We did briefly explore some Left 4 Dead next gen opportunities a few years ago. But we are absolutely not working on anything L4D related now, and haven’t for years. It’s clear some people are having fun creating misinformation to spin up the community and other outlets. Unfortunately, for now a new L4D game is not something we’re working on."
This is disappointing news, but DSOGaming points out that Valve has lied about its projects before. HTC actually leaked the existence of a new Half-Life game back in 2015, and while Valve offered a similar denial at the time, we know how that turned out. Valve News Network has also published a recent video on YouTube that shows off Left 4 Dead 3 concept art.
