During last night's CES 2020 conference, Intel provided a small taste of its first discrete graphics card, the Xe-based "DG1."

Vice President of Architecture for Graphics and Software Lisa Pearce demoed the GPU with an ultra-thin laptop running Destiny 2.

The performance looked decent enough, but Pearce (and the Client Computing Group's Gregory Bryant) stressed that DG1 was still in its "early days."

According to a tweet from Intel, DG1 would provide twice the performance of Ice Lake, its current generation of graphics.

Preview of first Xe-based discrete GPU: Intel Vice President of Architecture for Graphics and Software Lisa Pearce provided insight into the progress on the new Intel Xe graphics architecture, which will provide huge performance gains in Tiger Lake, and previewed Intel’s first Xe-based discrete GPU, code-named “DG1.”

No performance numbers yet. Double the perf of an integrated graphics solution?

Not exactly what everyone was hoping for. But we will see.

The big rumor I heard about DG1 was that they were modularly scalable -- like SLI only better, and were rumored to be able to scale with iGPUs.

If that's true Intel may have something even at a lower performance level... but it's still a long shot rumor, as nV or AMD/ATI (or MS DX or Vulcan) never quite cracked the secret sauce to making it developer-transparent, which is the biggest hurdle.

Lots of rumor, nothing concrete yet.
Don't think these are worth waiting for in any way shape or form.

Got some perf expectations. Destiny 2 was running at 1080p on low settings for the demo. I just played a bit on the laptop at the Intel reception and it felt decent enough, but a little sluggish. They didn't allow fps counters and it was with a controller. I'll fire it up at home and see how the game feel compares.

These will most likely be OEM builder AIC's for multiple or expanded displays. At least at first.
