RomUniverse appears to be next on Nintendo's kill list. The website, which not only serves ROMs but movies, eBooks, and other pirated content, is getting sued by the Japanese game giant "in the amount of $150,000 for each copyright infringement, and up to $2 million for each trademark infringement."

RomUniverse's case is made worse by the fact it charged users $30 a year for the privilege of downloading stolen content. According to Nintendo's filings, the Switch and 3DS ROMs it hosted saw nearly 300,000 and 500,000 downloads, respectively.

In November 2018, Nintendo reached a $12 million settlement with the two ROM sites, LoveROMS.com and LoveRETRO.co, it previously sued over similar allegations. Nintendo is also known to send out cease-and-desist letters liberally — it issued a takedown notice for 562 fangames in 2016.
