NVIDIA's next GeForce RTX 40 Series graphics card shouldn't be that far off. According to sources with VideoCardz, green team is planning to launch the GeForce RTX 4070, a complement to the Titanium version that was released on January 5 with a starting price of $799, sometime during April. Ongoing rumors would suggest that the GeForce RTX 4070 will feature 5,888 CUDA cores, 12 GB of GDDR6X memory, and a 2,475 MHz boost clock. (The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is listed with a 2.61 GHz boost clock.) A Founders Edition that features NVIDIA's reference cooler design will also seemingly be available.

If they make it by April 12th, that is 6 months from the launch date of the 4090. Is there any other generation where the mid range as it were took 6+ months to release after the top card?

Well...

The 3080/3090 was announced in Sept 2020, and it wasn't until almost Mar 2021 that we saw the 3060 or any other SKUs announced, with most SKUs coming much later in that year, and 3000 series SKUs still being announced pretty recently, even after the 4000 series introduction.

It's true that a 3070 was in between there (supposedly around October) - but you couldn't find any of any of these cards. But yes, a long drought between release dates isn't unheard of.

Usually nVida will start with what used to be the old x70/x80 tier releases (not the top of the stack, but about the top 1/3 of what will eventually be the entire generational line up), and then build outwards in both directions from there -- with Ti editions and Titans going up, and x60/x50/xX0. going down. Since RTX though, and especially now, all the naming has really gone out the window ... The 3000 series was kinda similar to how the 4000 series is shaping up. There was eventually a 3090Ti, but it took a while for that to come out (~18 mon), and the lower tiers have a very very long tail associated with them.
