Report: NVIDIA Won’t Be Making a GeForce RTX 3060 Founders Edition

NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card announcement was suspiciously light in terms of renders and promotional photos, and now we know why. According to French hardware site Cowcotland, green team doesn’t actually have plans for a reference model of the midrange Ampere GPU. The GeForce RTX 3060 will only be available from third-party manufacturers.

The constraint on making the breadth of models Nvidia wanted to do initially is interesting. This is making me think we are dealing with a broader issue here with supply and manufacturing being more impacted than is being let on. I suspect with new versions of Covid having greater availability than current versions of 3000 series chips, and at drop dead prices... that we won't be seeing any manufacturer meet market demand in a meaningful way for some time going forward.
