The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) has published the official specifications for USB4, clearing the way for potential devices next year. The latest version of the industry standard offers a transfer rate of 40 Gbps over USB Type-C, which is double that of USB 3.2.

Mixing of multiple data and display protocols is supported. USB4 is also backward compatible with USB 3.2, USB 2.0, and Thunderbolt 3.

The development of the USB4 specification was first announced in March 2019 by the USB Promoter Group. It is now officially published by USB-IF and available for download at www.usb.org.

Too cool. Been waiting for this. This and PCIe 4.0 are must for my next build and why I'm waiting another year or two for it.

For the creative types this is even MORE of a news item. Compatibility with Thunderbolt is a great addition! They have a lot of devices that are thunderbolt only and finding motherboards with Thunderbolt support is a PITA.
