Azeroth As It Was: Blizzard has announced that the “faithful recreation of the original World of Warcraft,” WoW Classic, will be released on August 27. WarCraft fans will be able to go back to the beginning and revisit the MMORPG as it was in 2006, before any of its expansions.

A “small-scale, focused closed beta test” will be available beginning tomorrow, May 15. There will also be additional stress tests running through July so Blizzard can test can their servers. Gamers can opt in now through Account Management.

Blizzard will also be releasing a special edition of WoW on October 8, the World of Warcraft 15th Anniversary Collector’s Edition. The $99.99 package includes a Ragnaros statue, Map of Azeroth mousepad, Alabaster mounts, and more.

If you’re eager to claim your character name in WoW Classic, take note: we’ll be opening character creation on Tuesday, August 13.** Players with an active subscription or game time on their account will be able to create up to three characters per World of Warcraft account. We’ll have more information on realm names closer to launch, but rest assured—you’ll have plenty of time to figure out your plans for realm domination!
