Xbox Game Studios's Matt Booty has admitted that it could be up to two years until the first Series X exclusives see the light of day. While Microsoft will have first-party titles on day one, games that specifically target Series X's powerful hardware won't debut until much later.
This is part of the Xbox team's plan to ensure that the current generation of Xbox owners aren't left out in the cold and can enjoy newer releases along with the Series X (and PC) crowd. It's also great news for Xbox Game Studios's 15-strong army of first-party developers, who have more time to adapt to the intricacies of newer hardware.
“As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games, sort of like PC, will play up and down that family of devices,” Booty explains. “We want to make sure that if someone invests in Xbox between now and [Series X] that they feel that they made a good investment and that we’re committed to them with content.”
Despite the long wait for hardware exclusives, early adopters should still get plenty of benefit out of the Xbox Series X. That should be the best way to play launch titles such as Halo Infinite (assuming you don't count the PC version).
“It’s the first time in over 15 years that we’ll have a Halo title launching in sync with a new console. And that team is definitely going to be doing things to take advantage of [Series X].”
