Most concerning impact? NO MORE future games support!

Maybe they need to opensource the driver so the community can take over. This new CEO is being hopelessly reckless as some had feared. But then, he's too old to care about the needs of desktop PC users and he wouldn't be Intel CEO if Pat had done his job properly in the first place.

Holy cow, didn't Raptor Lake just launch a couple years ago? Arc is older than that. (and I still can't believe it hasn't been axed or sold off...)

Isn't this just for on-die or integrated graphics? So if you have a standalone or dedicated GPU, does this matter much?

It matters for those wanting to use their iGPUs for indie games or even lighter AAA games that can easily run on an iGPU etc. So people with something like Ryzen 3200G, 5300G, 6600H etc. are better off than someone who was unfortunate enough to get a pre-built i5-14400 for their kid. If I had been that kid now, I would've felt just like I used to feel when I had SiS onboard VGA.

Seems so, there was a brief period where Intel transitioned from their old graphics tech to 'Xe'.

I'm not even sure I consider this 'bad'. While I've gamed on iGPUs in the past, I've never tried to punish myself with anything remotely 'modern' lol.

To be seen what the actual impact is, if anyone even bothers to check.

They have laid off, what, 40K+ employees? Sold off assets and taken on private equity partners. Taken money from U.S. taxpayers. Watched their market share continue to decline. Continuing to support old iGPUs is a wasted investment of manpower/money. They have much, much, bigger fish to fry.

Geebus I have a core ultra 155H with the Xe, or Xi graphics on board. Kinda sucks they are abandoning it. It's just now 2 years old. Just shows the trouble Intel's bloat got them into.
