  1. NVIDIA CEO, President, and Founder Jensen Huang Now Has a Personal Net Worth Greater than Intel

Yeah,m but most of it is likely in Nvidia shares, which he is a large proportion shareholder of. I read somewhere he owns something like 93.4 million shares of Nvidia, which amounts to about 3.74% of Nvidia. So Intels market cap right now is about $95.4B Nvidia's market cap right now is...
  2. Sid Meier’s Civilization VII Unveils PC Requirements Ahead of February 2025 Release

I hadn't heard of Vox Populi until a few days ago. I might give it a try. I never got into Beyond earth. The basis in history has always been a large part of what appealed to me about the Civ series. The concept of Beyond Earth just didn't interest me as much, so I never bought it. I've...
  3. Intel Core Ultra 9 285K Tops List of CPUs with Fastest Single-Thread Performance on PassMark, Beating Core i9-14900KS

That's pretty neat. I mean, we expect new CPU's to improve upon previous ones, but still, with all of Intel's problems and distraction on TPU/AI stuff. Still, chances of me buying one are remote. After all of the reliability issues and failures with 13th and 14th gen CPU's it will probably be...
  4. Ubisoft Is Reportedly in Negotiations With Epic Games Parent Company Tencent For A Buyout Deal

That sucks. I don't want to buy games from Tencent or any other Chinese entity. That said, Ubisoft wasn't exactly doing a stellar job on their own anyway, so maybe it is not a huge loss. The only Ubisoft game series I can think of that I was actually into was Far Cry, and honestly I was...
  5. Rumored AMD Ryzen 9000X3D Cinebench R23 Scores Show up to 28% Performance Gains over the 7000X3D Series

Cinebench is an odd benchmark to use to show off an X3D part as the extra cache usually does not benefit that type of load. ...unless the intent is to illustrate that - unlike previous X3D chips - it does not suffer at that type of loads due to reduced clock speeds. I randomly watched this...
  6. Samsung Starts Mass Production of PM9E1 PCIe 5.0 SSD Featuring Its 5nm Controller with Read/Write Speeds up to 14.5 GB/s and 13 GB/s

Everyone has to mention AI in their product releases these days. It's so pathetic. I bet there are even case fans "optimized for AI" :/ Businesses should be above using fads.
  7. “It Is Fixed”: Intel Concludes Investigation into Crashing Raptor Lake CPUs with Four Mitigations

It might be. But I'm still not going to take Intel's word for it. I want to see evidence that parts on the market are not failing at elevated rates, and that will take some time. It might take 2-3 generation cycles before I trust buying any of their CPU's again.
  8. Sid Meier’s Civilization VII Unveils PC Requirements Ahead of February 2025 Release

Yep. Even the [H] used Civilization V as part of its bnechmark suite at that time. As an example, here is a chart from an overclocking review of the Galaxy GTX560Ti from February 2011: "Civilization V received the smallest improvement with a 12.4% improvement in performance with the...
  9. Sid Meier’s Civilization VII Unveils PC Requirements Ahead of February 2025 Release

Well, keep in mind Civ5 came out 14 years ago now. LOTS of people were complaining how resource intensive it was when it was first launched. Then a whole bunch of people complained that it "killed" their GeForce 9800 series GPU's. There were also lots of complaints about how DX11 was required...
  10. Sid Meier’s Civilization VII Unveils PC Requirements Ahead of February 2025 Release

Overall, these requirements are a little confusing. But that is maybe to be expected, as most of our norms are not based on turn based strategy games. In typical games, you'd expect cranking up resolution to 4k to maybe even reduce the demand on the CPU, but in a game like this maybe showing a...
  11. Sid Meier’s Civilization VII Unveils PC Requirements Ahead of February 2025 Release

In both Civ 5 and 6 they claimed awesome threaded scaling prior to launch, but once the game launched, it turned out to not be that awesome after all. After I picked up my Threadripper 3960x in 2019 (24C/48T) I decided to test how Civ VI was loaded up. This was the result: It seems to be...
  12. NVIDIA App Beta Adds G-SYNC Controls, RTX HDR Multi-Monitor Support, and More

Yeah, but Linux package managers are only trustworthy because they don't have a profit incentive, and don't collect data from you. A store is not the same as a package manager.
  13. NVIDIA App Beta Adds G-SYNC Controls, RTX HDR Multi-Monitor Support, and More

I'm not going to lie. I'd rather do a manual install of a website download than use any app storefront.
  14. Noctua Launches Its Next-Gen NF-A14x25 G2 Square-Frame 140mm Flagship Fans

From memory 2-3 fans per channel were not a significant issue even with affected fans. It added up with more fans. Though I can't remember how many.
  15. NVIDIA App Beta Adds G-SYNC Controls, RTX HDR Multi-Monitor Support, and More

As much as I am happy to hate on this app, I think we should probably keep in mind that it IS still in beta :p Hopefully those items will get better prior to release. But Ideally, I'd want an alternative way to edit GPU settings without having this unholy mess installed.
  16. NVIDIA App Beta Adds G-SYNC Controls, RTX HDR Multi-Monitor Support, and More

I wonder what the incessant telemetry to gfe.nvidia.com will be replaced with (thank the sweet lord for pihole)
  17. Cyberpunk 2077 Has Tarnished CD PROJEKT RED’s Reputation Forever, Joint-CEO Believes

They did? I totally missed this. I will never install any other game store than Steam and GoG, so I guess I won't be buying CDPR games anymore then.
  18. Noctua Launches Its Next-Gen NF-A14x25 G2 Square-Frame 140mm Flagship Fans

I had that problem when I set up my massive overkill water loop for my Threadripper in 2019. (This build thread over on the H. Specifically, starting with this post within it) In my current loop I have three radiators, two 480's and one 420. I run them all in push-pull to get the most of...
  19. Cyberpunk 2077 Has Tarnished CD PROJEKT RED’s Reputation Forever, Joint-CEO Believes

I originally played through the game in its v1.3 state, and when I did, I found that the game was stable and bug free. I don't know how it improved after that, but I had no real complaints in v1.3. I bought Phantom Liberty, but never actually got around to playing it. I had already finished...
  20. New Windows 11 Update Breaks Mouse, Keyboard, Wi-Fi, and Other Important Functionality, Users Say

I support this message. But they never will. The entirety of the tech world these days believes that they know better than users what users want, and if they only force their unwanted shovel-ware on the users, the users will eventually learn to love it, and crave more, and eventually even pay...
