  1. AMD’s RDNA 3-Based “Phoenix” iGPU Rumored to Perform Just as Fast as NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (60 W) Laptop GPU

Makes sense. Didn't one of the companies recently talk about their new power balancing algorithms that could boost the GPU/CPU the perfect amount to maximize FPS while still limited to overall power budget for the package? Wasn't that AMD? Am I just dreaming up things?
  2. Apple’s Director of Machine Learning Resigns Due to Return-to-Work Policy

I guess I just don't see it. Whether he worked from home before or not also seems irrelevant to me. You are in a position where you can get a better job elsewhere at a given moment (regardless if it's better because of pay or certain conditions, this will be a personal opininion). Why would...
  3. AMD’s RDNA 3-Based “Phoenix” iGPU Rumored to Perform Just as Fast as NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (60 W) Laptop GPU

I don't have experience, but what you describe sounds reasonable to me. iGPU is a large power increase for the chip, makes sense that the cpu is kept at base clock. Plus for gaming it's not like I would care anyways, since I would probably be severely GPU bottlenecked at that point anyways.
  4. Apple’s Director of Machine Learning Resigns Due to Return-to-Work Policy

Why? I don't see it much differently from moving companies for a raise? Here someone is moving companies for working conditions they prefer?
  5. Apple Workers Unhappy About Having to Return to the Office, Ready to Quit

Yeah, I don't think it's a situation that really needs any sympathy. I imagine most of these are jobs are well paying jobs. If the company allows for work from home and employees are productive then perfect! If not I'm sure both employees and the company will move on and find better fits. I...
  6. Netflix Targeted with Shareholder Lawsuit

Yeah I think I've been watching it less and less. Although I did like the Arcane series. Love Death and Robots was kind of fun too if you're in the mood for watching a bunch of shorts. I also enjoyed the Witcher (although I did not play the games or read the books, so can't comment on how it...
  7. GGWP: New AI-Powered Platform to Combat Toxicity and Disruptive Behavior in Video Games

Yeah. to me the first one bugs me the most. The last one bugs me the least. I think its because the first 1 actually has something to do with my skill in the current game i'm playing, so that one has a higher chance of tilting me. The 2nd one depends on context. The 3rd one has no relation to...
  8. Cooler Master Announces V SFX Platinum PSUs with PCIe 5.0 Power Connector, Up to 1300 Watts of Total Power

They should just replace everything with micro-fit connectors (same style as that new pcie 12pin connector). Should free up some space edit: for reference a lot the server motherboards I see have already replaced the traditional 12V EPS 8pin connectors with smaller 8pin microfit connectors. A...
  9. Intel Adding”Software Defined Silicon” Mechanism to Linux: Pay Money to Unlock Additional CPU Features via Software Updates

But I guess by that logic, they already control all of our CPUs after we buy them and this doesn't really change anything :D
  10. Intel Adding”Software Defined Silicon” Mechanism to Linux: Pay Money to Unlock Additional CPU Features via Software Updates

How does it work? Do you buy a key that is tied to your unique cpu, and that key either can always be used to unlock your cpu or somehow permanently unlocks it? (intel cannot control your cpu anymore after you have bought cpu and the upgrade) Or does the cpu contact some server to unlock...
  11. Intel’s Optane Business Suffered $576 Million Operating Loss in 2020

Not saying you're wrong, just clarifying that the U.2 version is still using PCIe signalling. It's just not a conventional PCIe slot.
  12. Intel’s Optane Business Suffered $576 Million Operating Loss in 2020

I dont understand various parts of your post. Optane and nvme are not in competition. Many (most) optane drives use nvme. Optane is competition to NAND flash memory and DDR ram. Optane is not a solution to spindle drives. Optane still has some crazy numbers for very particular benchmarks...
  13. Tesla to Disable Self-Driving Feature That Allows Vehicles to Roll past Stop Signs

I dont follow. Madmummy was mentioning yield vs stop sign. He seems to imply there is large energy difference (correct me if i'm wrong madmummy!) . I visualized replacing a 4 way stop with a yield signs every way. I consider 2m/s (4mph) to be acceptable safe creep speed through a 4-way...
  14. Tesla to Disable Self-Driving Feature That Allows Vehicles to Roll past Stop Signs

The link calculates the energy usage going from 0->25mph. And comes to the conclusion that it is 2% of gasoline consumption in US. 1) 2% is significant, but not crazy 2) My argument is that the difference between 25mph->0 and 25mph->3 is not great. You can do 1/2mv^2 calculation to see the...
  15. Tesla to Disable Self-Driving Feature That Allows Vehicles to Roll past Stop Signs

I haven't done the calculations, but I feel like going from 25mph -> 3mph vs going from 25mph -> 0 mph will not be a huge energy difference. And for freeway traffic this is irrelevant anyways. So i question "They cause insane amounts of fuel to be wasted around the world."
  16. Elon Musk’s Neuralink Is Recruiting a Clinical Trial Director to Oversee Testing in Humans

Agreed. It's so cheesy that it's actually great.
  17. AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT Could Be a “Disaster in the Making” for PCIe 3.0 Systems Due to Memory and Bandwidth Limitations

The rumor is that 6500 xt is pcie 4.0 x4. So at maximum it has same bandwidth as pcie 3.0 x8. Worst case scenario someone puts it into a pcie 3.0 slot.
  18. Synergistic Research Is Selling a $2,000+ Ethernet Switch for Audiophiles

There are 8 billion people on the planet. You are going to find examples of crazy everywhere. People dont' post news stories about how "7.9999999" billion people didnt buy some crazy audiophile switch. People don't post news stories about how "7.9999999 billion people didn't buy gold flaked...
  19. Synergistic Research Is Selling a $2,000+ Ethernet Switch for Audiophiles

It may or may not be true, but I wouldn't use this as evidence of "no one wants to be bothered with techincal details anymore". A lot of the things that float to the top on the internet are the craziest most absurd things. This is true for politics, technology, science, religion, you name it...
  20. Synergistic Research Is Selling a $2,000+ Ethernet Switch for Audiophiles

How do you know this product highlights anything in society? I always assumed audiophile snake oil was a niche of a niche. Most people just look at it and shrug.
