  1. Content creation benchmarks

Hey Dan, Just noticed this: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Puget-Systems-Adobe-After-Effects-CC-Benchmark-Updated-6-10-2019-1287/ Looks like they have benchmarks available to download, might be worth a look in.
  2. 3950X!!!!

    Didn't they say September?
  3. Content creation benchmarks

For motherboard reviews, there is simply no point, as you said. But for CPU and GPU reviews there definitely is. I respectfully disagree that they should be confined to the HEDT platform, as many streamers and youtubers use them these days. Well let’s look at the suggestions: 1. Davinci - free...
  4. Whats Your Choice for a Router/Firewall OS?

The answer is a side channel attack. But to execute that you have to “break into” pfsense, then hope the person running it isn’t running the latest patched version of esxi. The chances of doing the former are very low, but if you get into pfsense then you have access to the network anyway...
  5. Content creation benchmarks

Thus far the only somewhat reliable benchmark/review house for content creation is puget systems. That said, they have a vested interest in selling systems so... While this is "The FPS review", one way you can boost your audience is to look at common content creation packages Adobe CC...
  6. Whats Your Choice for a Router/Firewall OS?

Please show me an attack vector that can be repeatably demonstrated that makes this insecure.
  7. Are you an AMD or Intel guy?

It completely depends on what you're doing. The 9700k has 8 cores and runs faster than the 8700k - if you're using single threaded software, or up to 8 threads, it will be quicker than the 8700k by a margin. It's when you get to 12 or more threads that it's within 10% The 9900k has 8 cores and...
  8. Are you an AMD or Intel guy?

Much love for the commentary! (Wish I could have this “debate” in real-time with you, maybe we should collaborate on some stuff, seems we have a lot in common...) Ryzen 2700x is at a broadwell level of performance, more if you count SMT. It’s not as far behind as you make out, clock for clock...
  9. Are you an AMD or Intel guy?

Hmm I don’t agree with parts of your post, which is unusual Dan. Core2 was based on pIII. It was not technically superior to AMD’s option, it just happened that there were enough tweaks possible to make it faster. More recently with the piledriver/bulldozer mess, I think it was a case of AMD...
  10. Are you an AMD or Intel guy?

I caved... the 9700k is going and the 9900k is coming I place the blame firmly on Dan_D's shoulders for the cpu pics.
  11. Is your BIOS up to date?

Generally I keep up to date with my desktop, my server rarely gets updates.
  12. What do you use for your ESXi Server

Meagre compared to some setups. I7-4790/Asrock B85M-pro4/32gig ram Main vm store is a 256gig Samsung 850 pro Pass through on an m1505 to 8x2gb drives for raidZ2 (freenas) I had a Chelsio dual 10gig Nic in there but decided it was just power I didn’t need to burn.
  13. Are you an AMD or Intel guy?

    Ack.. where do I begin? My list (similar to Dan's): 1985-1986 Zilog Z80A - 4mhz (Amstrad CPC 464) 1986-1990 NEC V20 (8088) 10mhz - was originally an intel 8088 1990-1993 AMD am386dx-40 (first self built) 1993-1994 Intel 486sx-25 (overclocked to 33mhz) 1995 (briefly) AMD K5-75...
