  1. The Z Build(s) 3.0 - Go Big and/or Go Home

Maybe I need something like this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VGK8GBL/?tag=thefpsreview-20
  2. The Z Build(s) 3.0 - Go Big and/or Go Home

I could use a little bit more crimping advice, if anyone has any. @Endgame , @Grimlakin, @Brian_B ? Anyone work with these before? First off, bear with me, it's tough to take pictures of these tiny things (at least without breaking out the DSLR with the macro-lens, which I don't feel like...
  3. AMD RX 9070 XT with 32 GB GDDR6 VRAM Is Reportedly in the Works to Sway Consumers Needing More Memory

While I agree, I don't think anyone suggested the regular 9070xt would have 32GB of VRAM. The way I read the rumor is that there will potentially be versions of it that have 32GB, probably just by doubling the size of the individual RAM chips on a special version, suggesting that the regular...
  4. GeForce RTX 5070 (12 GB) Launches on March 5, Delivering What NVIDIA Says Is Twice the Performance of the RTX 4070 for $549

...but in reality it is only 18% faster than a 4070. 😅 False advertising at its best.
  5. The Z Build(s) 3.0 - Go Big and/or Go Home

The fan bracket has two boards on the back of it with headers for the fans. I am using those, but I still need to bring power and signal to those boards from my controllers, which is why I need cables. If I were using Watercools controller boards, I could just install them in the radiator...
  6. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Gets a Massive Patch That Weighs In at 24.5 GB on PC, Bringing More than 1,700 Improvements and Fixes to GSC Game World’s ...

Hopefully they fixed the keyboard bind issues. My project is not done yet, but when it is, the first thing I am going to do is jump in with Stalker2.
  7. The Z Build(s) 3.0 - Go Big and/or Go Home

Thank you both. I wound up ordering what I need (and some spares for practice) from DigiKey.
  8. The Z Build(s) 3.0 - Go Big and/or Go Home

I'm having a surprisingly difficult time finding these parts from anywhere a normal human being (without a purchasing department, or a need for reels of 10's of thousands of parts) can purchase these without serious ripoff pricing. Some seller on amazon has kits of them with 5 connectors and...
  9. The Z Build(s) 3.0 - Go Big and/or Go Home

I've run into another momentary setback. I determined that ideally I should make my own fan cables for things to be clean and the right length. Initially, since I have so many unused Noctua extension cables from the boxes and boxes of Noctua fans I have bought, the plan was to just lop off the...
  10. The Z Build(s) 3.0 - Go Big and/or Go Home

Yeah, I've never used a DDC before. The pumps I bought do come with a heatsink. It's not very deep, but it is larger than I expected. In fact the whole dressed pump is larger than I expected. (For what it is worth I have large-ish hands) My plan has been to open air mount them, figuring...
  11. AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Burned Out After 20 Days of Stock Use on an X870E Motherboard, User Claims: “No High Temps Registered at Any Point”

I didn't realize many boards were sacrificing main 16x slot speeds for more m.2 slots these days. That is a bummer. I will have to look out for that. I feel like the easiest solution to my requirements will be to find a board that has 10gig ethernet on board, either like the Asus Pro-Art or...
  12. AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Burned Out After 20 Days of Stock Use on an X870E Motherboard, User Claims: “No High Temps Registered at Any Point”

I'm curious. What about this motherboard do you like, to have made you go looking for it? I'll be shopping for AM5 boards soon, and it just looks like a sea of sameness to me out there, to be honest. Right now I am leaning towards an Asus ProArt simply because it has two Ethernet ports, one...
  13. AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Burned Out After 20 Days of Stock Use on an X870E Motherboard, User Claims: “No High Temps Registered at Any Point”

It could have had a slightly bent pin making marginal contact, and thus resistively heating up, I guess. That is a risk with any of these modern exposed "pin in socket" designs. I - by far - prefer the old fashioned "straight pins on the CPU" designs.
  14. AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Burned Out After 20 Days of Stock Use on an X870E Motherboard, User Claims: “No High Temps Registered at Any Point”

Same. But Microcenter appears to be the exception. They always seem to have a few in stock. Most people don't have a MicrCenter nearby though.
  15. AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Burned Out After 20 Days of Stock Use on an X870E Motherboard, User Claims: “No High Temps Registered at Any Point”

I'd be curious to see a GN investigation, but I can totally understand why the guy wouldn't sell it to them With something limited in supply like this, there is no guarantee you are going to be able to buy another one.
  16. AMD RX 9070 XT with 32 GB GDDR6 VRAM Is Reportedly in the Works to Sway Consumers Needing More Memory

What are the use cases for that? Video editing, compute and AI? I don't think I've ever see my 4090 come even close to 16GB VRAM use, and I run everything at 4k ultra. I understand the desire for future-proofing, but I guess my perspective is, that if we get to a point where above 16GB RAM...
  17. The Z Build(s) 3.0 - Go Big and/or Go Home

Oh, and worth noting, I did go with the middle configuration from my spreadsheet screenshot above, but - obviously - the workstation and game box are not in there yet. It looks like my concerns about eight distribution and stability were unfounded. The thing is still completely stable, even...
  18. The Z Build(s) 3.0 - Go Big and/or Go Home

Hehe, maybe some day :p The two pumps used for the radiators will hang right underneath the reservoirs, which will hang on the side of the radiators. The plan originally was to get some sort of plastic "hobby box" to install the PSU and Aquaero devices in, bolt that to the side of the case...
  19. The Z Build(s) 3.0 - Go Big and/or Go Home

Well, it took all night, but I got the rack rearranged, holes drilled for the second radiator, mounting brackets mounted, and radiators test fitted. I had almost forgotten how much of a pain in the *** cage nuts can be. Almost. I wonder if that's enough radiator capacity. Might need to...
  20. The Z Build(s) 3.0 - Go Big and/or Go Home

Oh, and in other updates. The first of the Sliger rackmountable cases arrived this week. The 4U one for the workstation. It looks like a pretty neat case. Feels pretty sturdy. I mounted the three Silverstone fans in it, and they are a little loud, but I doubt they will go full blast very...
