Micron to Discontinue Its Crucial Brand of Consumer SSDs and Memory Products So It Can Chase the AI Magic Dragon

In this market environment, who would buy it? Except maybe to re-enter if/when the AI demand drops off.

    AMD Zen 6 Discussion

Intel is currently constrained by process wrt clockspeeds. 18a is not suitable for high clockspeed designs, and anything else they have is old and as such is not even remotely competitive from TSMC's latest. 18ap may fix that in 2027, we will have to wait and see. Using TSMC silicon is...

EA Confirms $55 Billion Buyout Deal, and According to a Report, the New Owners Are Banking on AI to Reduce Operating Costs

$55 billion is a lot of money. Gotta cut corners to recoup that investment and get into positive RoI territory! Of course the product will probably suffer, but oh well, too bad.

New 12V-2×6 Device Featuring Load Balancing Technology Could Be the Cure-All for 16-Pin Connector Meltdowns

Absolutely. Keep in mind this also pertains to 9070XTs that have 12v2x6 connectors. But it mostly relates to the cards at most risk for failure, which are 5090s and 4090TI/4090s. It would be nice to go back to RT being optional.

New 12V-2×6 Device Featuring Load Balancing Technology Could Be the Cure-All for 16-Pin Connector Meltdowns

Been doing that for years. It's getting hard to get a decent video card that isn't from NV. And despite the focus on the AI market, NV is still up to its old tricks when it comes to making life difficult for non-NV card owners. Don't get me wrong, a 9070XT is a fine card, and AMD apparently...

Graphics Tech startup from the 90s

http://dansdata.com/prophet4500.htm https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/attack-blind-spot,482.html They both existed, and while the Parhelia was not really good for anything, the Kyro II had a few wins (like Serious Sam, if I recall correctly). Anandtech had a nice Kyro II review back in...

Intel Files Patent For Software-Defined Super Cores, Allowing 2 or More Cores to Function as One

I thought Intel already had patents related to so-called "reverse hyperthreading" going back over the years? Plus there were rumours about "rentable units" awhile back: https://hardwaretimes.com/intel-15th-gen-cpus-to-get-rentable-units-why-hyper-threading-is-going-away/

Hollow Knight: Silksong Managed to Crash Multiple Storefronts on Launch Day Due to Overwhelming Sales

There are. Quite a few publishers and devs are upset that gamers get so much value for $20. And there are indie devs angry about Team Cherry taking all the oxygen out of the room (figuratively speaking). Multiple launches have been postponed to avoid the surprise launch window of Silksong...

AMD Could Be Prepping a Flagship Next-Gen GPU Featuring 96 Compute Units with Memory on a 512-Bit Bus

True. Framegen is the main culprit. Or you can get 144 fps native if you don't use RT, assuming your card can push that natively. Which in some cases it can, especially if you're running 1440p. Yeah, 8k and up really doesn't have a market yet, and maybe never will. Dunno if I agree with...

    AMD Zen 6 Discussion

Could be Vietnam or India. In any case they're probably getting hardware from some of the same industrial districts as GMK.

AMD Could Be Prepping a Flagship Next-Gen GPU Featuring 96 Compute Units with Memory on a 512-Bit Bus

The main problem I have with frame generation + upscaling is that you don't get input response that matches the indicated framerate. When your display is showing 144 fps (or higher) but you are actually getting 60 fps (or less), you're going to feel it in a twitchy shooter or what have you...

    Intel Core Ultra 9 285K & Ultra 5 245K CPU Review

It's a shame because, of all the Z890 CPUs, the 265k is probably the one that makes the most sense at its pricepoint. It kind of is a bad CPU for desktop since it has roots in Meteor Lake that really hold it back.

AMD Could Be Prepping a Flagship Next-Gen GPU Featuring 96 Compute Units with Memory on a 512-Bit Bus

Am I the only one who still wants better raster performance, no RT, and no frame generation?

ULTRARAM, a Technology That Aims to Bridge the Gap Between DRAM and NAND, Makes Another Step to Volume Production

If Optane's now-dead future was any indicator, it seems like what they're going to wind up with is persistent RAM that's not as fast as actual DRAM. Which would probably be the worst point about it. And yes, cost is usually an issue for anything that's new and novel due to economies of scale.

Not sure why people are fixated on the Framework Strix Halo when the GMK unit seems much more common.
