    Free games thread

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2195910/Darkenstein_3D/ Boggles my mind on two fronts. First, MICROPROSE IS BACK! Second, how on Good God's earth do they make this available for free (forever!) and only hope to make some money from the sale of the soundtrack??? My guess is, they want to...

AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPU Review: Fastest 8-Core

Unexpected 9850X3D superpower: https://www.club386.com/amd-ryzen-7-9850x3d-review/ Might just be the trick that saves this CPU on ASUS and ASROCK mobos.

Ongoing AMD Zen6 Rumors Continue to Suggest a 12-Core Single-CCD “Olympic Ridge” Processor Is Inbound for the AM5 Platform

10900X/X3D with 40 threads (two CCDs with 10 cores each) should end the x900X/x900X3D low sales volume curse that AMD has had to deal with so far, due to six cores per CCD not being good enough for gaming.

This is how badly Intel screwed itself over

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/compare.html?productIds=241747,245526 Looking at that, you can see that Intel is LYING when it says that it doesn't want to compete with Strix Halo. How? 96GB of LPDDR5x-9600 What do LLMs love? RAM bandwidth What else do they love? GPUs aka...

AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPU Review: Fastest 8-Core

Probably never gonna happen. A performant iGPU like that needs gobs of RAM bandwidth and we know high speed RAM is now the baby that was thrown out with the bathwater. I used to wonder why AMD never had good APUs (better than 8700G) and the answer seems to be because they knew it would be...

AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPU Review: Fastest 8-Core

7500X3D is available locally for me for less than 265KF. Great move as it should work decent even with DDR5-4800.

    Cinebench 2026

Most likely the Windows executable has been compiled with a hard minimum AVX2 requirement. That same requirement was dropped for whatever reason when they compiled the MacOS binary. Did you try sde with set cpuid for Haswell?

    Cinebench 2026

That's a good point. With only 30W, the poor cores aren't getting the power they need to perform. Maybe there's an option in BIOS to unlock more perf with increased power limit?

    Cinebench 2026

Yeah. Passmark latency isn't proper. Use AIDA64 or MaxxMem2 or My very own RAM latency tool in my sig. It has the benefit of being OS agnostic as it measured the same RAM latency in Win11 and Win2025 Server. It is "as real world as it gets". It allocates 500MB of buffer RAM and continuously...

NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 Upscaling Performance Review & Analysis

    Cinebench 2026

That RAM must have terrible latency to slow down that CPU so much. Only 5.34X multicore scaling. Maybe it's possible to improve the LPDDR5x latency by turning off all power optimization related settings in BIOS. 7-Max could also help improve that score a bit.

AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPU Review: Fastest 8-Core

If the rumors of the 9700X3D are true, that's one more kick to Arrow Lake. The 265K will lose its appeal quickly since the 9800X3D's $449 price was making it turn up in the shopping cart of some people. Now people like that could opt for the 9700X3D if they can get it at something like $389.

A Troubling Trend Is Growing as PC Hardware Manufacturers Cancel Orders Only to Repost the Same Product at a Higher Price

Supposedly owned by PC Partner Group. I used to have a 440BX PC Partner mobo back in the day. Served me for many years and I was even able to sell it to a friend afterwards. Inno3D is also owned by them and haven't heard bad things about that brand.
