Don’t Expect DDR5 to Go Anywhere Anytime Soon, as DDR6 Isn’t Planned to Arrive for Commercial Applications Until 2028

My first "GPU" was an S3 Virge 2MB, it ran Jedi Knight in 400x300 around 15fps (except for a few outdoor areas where it would drop to 1fps). Getting the voodoo later was really a game changer. I remember saving up all the pocket and birthday money to finally get a Radeon 9600XT to play Far Cry...

Don’t Expect DDR5 to Go Anywhere Anytime Soon, as DDR6 Isn’t Planned to Arrive for Commercial Applications Until 2028

But I wasn't on the bleeding edge, never have been really. I finally got a voodoo 1 over a year after it launched. I never had a flagship video card at launch, most of the time I had mid tier hardware with a focus on Price/Performance. When I did have a flagship GPU, it was very deep into their...

Don’t Expect DDR5 to Go Anywhere Anytime Soon, as DDR6 Isn’t Planned to Arrive for Commercial Applications Until 2028

Even before the current situation I found DDR5 overpriced, there was no way I'd pay $300 to sidegrade from 64GB DDR4 to DDR5. Now it costs $1000. And then we are not even counting the cost of a new MB and CPU. All for an incremental upgrade. Even when I went from the 3700X to the 5800X3D when...

Take-Two Defends GTA 6 Console-Only Launch by Saying It Always Serves Its “Core Audience” First

No, thanks I've tried playing GTA5 on PS3, it was an abysmal experience, and abandoned the game one or two hours in and sold my copy.

32GB Is the New Recommended Amount of System Memory for Windows 11

You jest but I'm almost certain they are already doing that. All those times the computer ramps up its fans when unattended and should be idle is a little more than sus.

Don’t Expect DDR5 to Go Anywhere Anytime Soon, as DDR6 Isn’t Planned to Arrive for Commercial Applications Until 2028

Shipping overseas? Unlikely. I have no inclination to upgrade anything at the current prices. I'll probably use my current DDR4 board until it stops working, and even then I'd weigh my options whether is it worth to get new stuff with DDR5, or simply buy another DDR4 MB.

32GB Is the New Recommended Amount of System Memory for Windows 11

I don't think this is logical, or expected or even warranted by anything. Windows arguably gained no new function (at least what users wanted) since vista. So there is absolutely no good reason why it should require more RAM than that. Even the UI became simpler and uglier, which makes it...

Microsoft Is Force-Upgrading All Windows 11 24H2 PCs to 25H2, and You Can’t Opt Out

What is this about exploitable HW? How is that in any way related to what I said about not updating Software unless you need to? I didn't say disable windows update and never install any security patches, I was referring to feature updates only. There were several hacks recently where bad...

Microsoft Is Force-Upgrading All Windows 11 24H2 PCs to 25H2, and You Can’t Opt Out

Vulnerability has become the IT equivalent of will you just think of the children! Every new version has potential new 0-day vulnerabilities than don't affect the tried and tested one. I'd argue that updating to a new major release makes you less secure, not more. On top of this your chance of...

New Xbox CEO Reportedly Told Employees That “Game Pass Has Become Too Expensive for Players”

I didn't mean the backlog of games, but how often and how many such games are added? Surely for an ongoing subscription to make any sense at all you must get more games than what you could buy outright with the same money. So, paying 80 to buy a great game once in a while is a problem, but...

New Xbox CEO Reportedly Told Employees That “Game Pass Has Become Too Expensive for Players”

But how often do they add titles you would pay money for? Why would I pay a subscription to get access to games I'd never even consider buying? At this point not even years is enough for me to finish some games, I just don't play games 6-8 hours / day anymore, unless it's something I really...

New Xbox CEO Reportedly Told Employees That “Game Pass Has Become Too Expensive for Players”

I'm OK with buying AAA games that are good, at 60 70 even 80 if it's something outstanding. If a game is worth playing I'd rather own it and play it with no pressure than rent it, I know technically steam is renting too, but you know what i mean. At $20 you'd need a good AAA game every 3 months...

Metro 2039 Officially Announced — Full Reveal Thursday, 4A Games Returns to Post-Apocalyptic Moscow

I'm not saying it was a bad game or that I disliked it. A 6/10 is a solid score, I enjoyed even some 4/10 games.

New Xbox CEO Reportedly Told Employees That “Game Pass Has Become Too Expensive for Players”

Well of course it is, anything over 0$ is too expensive. As far as I'm concerned game subs are a plague and shouldn't be a thing. In fact I hated it even when I had it for free as it was constantly on the back of my mind to not let it go to waste. It incentivized me to try games I'd never have...

Metro 2039 Officially Announced — Full Reveal Thursday, 4A Games Returns to Post-Apocalyptic Moscow

I have not played any of the previous Metro games or any Stalker. I rely on my spidey senses to decide which games are for me and which aren't, and those were telling me to avoid them until Exodus. The exact reason I was interested in Exodus was because it promised not to be underground. And it...
