I was expecting to need to undervolt pronto. I've read so many complaints about power and heat with Alder. Of course, most were referencing the higher core counts. But not always. Just because you can make the 12600 draw over 200W, should not be a knock against it. I will probably do the undervolt later today, just to see if it will boost even higher, but the exercise is completely unnecessary.
12600KF, Gigabyte Z790 S WIFI, and 4x8GB Crucial Ballistix Elite CL18 4000. Did not do anything but make certain XMP was on in the UEFI, rebar was already on, latest bios. Using an Iota A62 I picked up for $33 on Amazon. Stock fans are garbage. Swapped for Thermalright that are cheap but quiet. Playing Spider-man Miles Morales for hours, it never exceeded 90W or hit 60c in a 21c living room, bare bones on a mobo box. No trouble hitting the 4.9GHz single core boost in the 3DMark suite.
Not going to bother with overclocking. I will never notice it while gaming, and I don't care abut benchmark scores. If I can get a little more while using a little less power? Then hell yeah.
Paired it with my B580, and under extended gaming load the setup is just as quiet as my 5600X3D with a XFX 6800. My 8 core AM4&5 systems get a little louder under the same conditions. I have a negative CO on all of them. But the big difference is they have a 7900XTX and 9070XT working hard.
Parden the blurry pic. The battery for my Pixel 6 is not here yet. Using a crappy Moto G on auto mode did not go well.
