New Line Cinema is developing a sequel to Mortal Kombat (2021), and its character select screen is set to expand with the addition of Shao Kahn, King Jerrod, Queen Sindel, and Quan Chi, according to a fresh report that Deadline shared today with details about the film's newest cast members. Martyn Ford (F9: The Fast Saga) has been tapped to portray Shao Kahn, the former Emperor of Outworld, first introduced in 1993's Mortal Kombat II, while Desmond Chiam (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Ana Thu Nguyen (Get Free) will be playing King Jerrod and Sindel, respectively. Damon Herriman, whose credits include Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Mindhunter, is set as Quan Chi, the NetherRealm demon who hasn't appeared in a mainline Mortal Kombat game since 2015's MKX. Simon McQuaid is returning for the new Mortal Kombat despite the original only having made $84 million worldwide.
