Diablo IV players experienced a frustrating weekend when a series of Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks rendered Blizzard's new action RPG (or, as critics would like to say, action RNG) unplayable for several hours. The incident has prompted fans to call for an offline mode in Diablo IV to be introduced, allowing them to continue playing even when online servers are compromised.

Network / Internet outages have always been the main argument against needing persistent connections for playing any games. It's always been seen as egregious for any single player game to need a persistent connection though Diablo is not necessarily always a single player game.
 
Steam was down yesterday afternoon. Haven't seen any news items on it.
 
It is sad that a single unhappy/mean person can (and will) disrupt the lives of so many people. Its not like they are even using the attention/event to post a political message.

An offline mode with networking/ip play would be nice. It would solve the only 10 characters and no option to buy more slots problem as well.
