Evan Wells, co-president of Naughty Dog, has announced that he will be retiring from the developer at the end of this year. Wells, who has been with the company for 25 years, shared the news today in a letter that was initially sent to staff, explaining how he thought this was the "perfect time" to step away and put the fate of the studio in the hands of its current leaders, which include The Last of Us director/writer Neil Druckmann. Some of Wells' earliest projects include Crash 3, a game that he helped develop after being hired as Naughty Dog's 14th staff member.

Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra (who left a few years ago) did a decent job with Naughty Dog after the original co-founders left. But the Naughty Dog I liked was the one led by the co-founders, Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin. As with Balestra, I wish Wells the best in whatever he does next.
