Samsung Electronics has announced that it has successfully developed the industry’s first Low Power Compression Attached Memory Module (LPCAMM). Expected to transform the DRAM market for PCs and laptops, and possibly even data centers, this new LPDDR-based memory, which features a new, eight-sided form factor, is said to offer performance and power efficiency improvements of up to 50% and 70%, respectively, compared to SO-DIMM. Commercialization of this new memory, which also occupies up to 60% less space on motherboards compared to SO-DIMM, is expected to commence in 2024.
