On one hand, those after market toner cartridges and cheap ink refills cause a crap ton of problems with printers but on the other hand bricking a device the customer paid for on purpose is out of line.

If a customer messes up their hardware by using something that's not officially endorsed by the manufacture then it should be on the customer and the other company. Intentionally breaking someone's hardware to "protect" them is just stupid.
