Computer giant Acer has been hit by a ransomware attack that might end up costing the company millions of dollars. The attack has been confirmed by information security and technology news publication Bleeping Computer, which shared leaked images from the ransomware gang showcasing various sensitive documents stolen from the company, such as financial spreadsheets, bank balances, and bank communications. Acer is being asked to pay $50,000,000—the largest known ransom to date.

It happens. And it almost always starts with a phishing scam email. IT people can spot these things a mile away, but the "normies" (muggles, if you will) that work in the company like salespeople, accountants, etc are rarely computer experts. Even with mandatory yearly training that scream avoid suspicious looking emails, these blockheads will keep doing it. "What's this, 50% discount on viagra? I'd be a fool not to take advantage of that.... " click click boom.

Anyway, a large corporation like Acer surely has insurance for this type of thing
