Despite being canceled by Syfy in 2018 after its third season, sci-fi drama The Expanse has already captured the hearts of Prime Video executives and subscribers. Amazon, which picked up the show last year, has announced it would be getting a fifth season.

The company must be confident that it'll be a hit, being that season four hasn't even aired yet (it debuts December 13). Other Prime Video series that received early renewals include Jack Ryan, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and The Boys, which released on Friday.

Humanity has been given access to thousands of Earth-like planets which has created a land rush and furthered tensions between the opposing nations of Earth, Mars and the Belt. Ilus is the first of these planets, one rich with natural resources but also marked by the ruins of a long dead alien civilization. While Earthers, Martians and Belters maneuver to colonize Ilus and its natural resources, these early explorers don’t understand this new world and are unaware of the larger dangers that await them.

This is a decent call IMO. One of the few series which felt "real enough" in terms of sci-fi and physics to make not go "WTF is this ****" every other minute. The plot is also amusing enough with enough flawed but human characteristics not to write them all off as one sided.
