Amazon has shared an article confirming that it will begin delivering packages by drone later this year, allowing customers in Lockeford, California, to be among the first to try out what might be a ubiquitous and commonplace way of receiving goods from the e-commerce juggernaut in the future.

Maybe they'll do a better job of following directions of where to leave packages?

Honestly, the smartest thing to do would be to have customers prepare specific landing zones for delivery drones in order to qualify for drone delivery. Landing zones marked with stripes or whatever on a porch or something.

They can't get it right by truck half the time. Just had a package get bounced between two post offices three times this weekend.

On the plus side, they have been preparing their packaging for this moment for the past couple of years by having their delivery drivers just chuck your packages up and over any fence you may have - simulating a ground-drop landing by drone.
