AMD’s new Zen 2-based Ryzen 3 processors can be overclocked pretty well on air, but what are they capable of with exotic cooling solutions? Quite a bit, it seems, as extreme overclocker TSAIK managed to push his Ryzen 3 3100 CPU yesterday to 5.9 GHz – 2 GHz above the chip’s advertised boost clock (3.9 GHz) – with the help of liquid nitrogen. That seems pretty impressive for a budget chip that costs only $99.

According to his CPU-Z submission, TSAIK accomplished the overclock with MSI’s MAG X570 Tomahawk WiFi motherboard and a single stick of 8 GB DDR4-1600 RAM. Stability was maintained with a core voltage of 1.45 V, the resulting temperatures of which were obviously tamed through the use of LN2.

It’s still early days for AMD’s latest Ryzen 3 processors, so expect new records...
