AMD partners and retailers received the go-ahead today to begin selling its latest Radeon RX 6000 Series graphics card, the Radeon RX 6600 XT. Sadly, it appears to be quite the paper launch.

As pointed out by hardware leakers and various publications, the Radeon RX 6600 XT appears to be a complete no-show at many popular retailers. Tom’s Hardware’s editors, who were apparently checking frantically since the graphics card’s release time at 9:00 a.m. ET this morning, didn’t find a single card at Amazon, Memory Express, MicroCenter, and other major vendors.

Leaker momomo_us also shared a screenshot from earlier this morning of Radeon RX 6600 XT listings on Newegg. Not a single one appears to have been in stock at any time. Readers have also pointed out the disappointing pricing, with select models such as ASUS’ ROG Strix Radeon RX 6600 XT and MSI’s...

Part of me wonders why AMD even bothers with Discrete graphics after this generation. Their production had been abysmal and their marketing is now turning self-destructive.

Then another part of me is afraid AMD will stop bothering with Discrete graphics after this generation.

As a user of a 6800xt I have no real issue with the card it runs great and does all I want it to do.

My comment has nothing to do with the technology or performance of AMD products - strictly with their availability and marketing choices.

Remember the Frank Azor tweets a few months back?

Stopped by the Denver @microcenter and what do you know: about 100 RX 6600 XT cards were received today. I picked up the Gigabyte Eagle, at MSRP of $380 — for science! Supply was “better than any other recent GPU launch,” according to someone I chatted with.

There are currently at least 30 6600XTs available at my nearest microcenter. 25+ are Red Devils at $399, and the remainder seem to be the 549 Asus variants. First time I’ve seen a launch day card actually make it to be listed on the microcenter website since the 3090 launch (not that any 3090s made it, either, just saying when I started watching)

edit to say 399 seems like a pretty good deal compared to the other cards in stock. Below the 6600XT is a 1050ti for 299, and next card above it is a 6700XT for $829.

i don’t know about other micro centers, but I’m not surprised Tom’s couldn’t find any on the micro center web site at 9am launch day. The one near me doesn’t list anything online until they have cleared the morning line of customers. If they get 10 3080s in and there are 50 people in line at 5am that want 3080s, nothing will get listed on the web site. If only 8 people in line at 5am want 3080s, the last two will sit on the shelf till about noon, then they will be posted to the web site.

the 6600XTs were no different, outside of the fact that there were still over 25 Red Devils left come noon on launch day.
