For reasons that may or may not have anything to directly do with the launch of Intel’s new 12th Gen Core “Alder Lake” processors, retailers have begun applying generous discounts to select AMD Ryzen 5000 Series processors. These include Micro Center, which is currently offering the 8C/16T Ryzen 7 5800X for $299.99 ($150.00 off). The sale is notable, being that the MSRP of this chip is $449.







Other notable offers include the Ryzen 7 5700G, which is now available for $279.99 ($80.00 off), as well as the Ryzen 5 5600G, which is now available for $199.99 ($60.00 off)...

That and don't forget AMD has a new revision of the 5000 series coming. We'll see if it brings back a balance in performance.
 
Definitely - AMD took advantage of their performance edge while they could, and will probably have the opportunity to do so again soon.

I'm just standing by for good deals on a 5900X and an X570S board :)
 
I'm betting the revised 5000 series with 3D cache gives a 5-10% performance bump. What would be the point otherwise.
 
Remember the Ryzen series of CPU's are design focused on gaming first. Everything else.. a close second. If they can get the frames in line with what Intel has and still beat their price that will be the ideal situation. Within 5%.

Price about 50-100 bucks cheaper. A 5900x replacement for less than 600.

Then I would feel justified in upgrading my CPU. :)

AMD is highly unlikely to approach the top-end single-thread performance of Intel CPUs.

They simply cannot clock as high.

Granted, they don't need to either; if 1% lows can be kept comfortably in excess of monitor refresh rate, there's really no point.
 
Hmmm, my Microcenter (Dallas) has 5800x for 329, not 299. Bummer. Not that I need it... but I do want it.

At microcenters often the price marked is not the price it checks at. Have them chec it for you to make sure.
 
I may be interested in swapping my 2700x for a 5600x, but who knows yet.

The 5700G might be my last purchase for PC upgrades this year. Not a lot of hope in "holiday deals" this season.

I am happy to see competition drive prices down a bit.
 
the intel ones seem to be getting more expensive, one shop had the 12900k at 649€ and it's now 699€ the 12900KF went from 619€ to 649€

Still barely any motherboards around so I'm holding off for now.
