Apple has lost the leader of its M1 development team.



Jeff Wilcox, who joined Apple nearly a decade ago in November 2013, confirmed in an update on his LinkedIn page that he has rejoined Intel following his stint as the director of Apple’s Mac system architecture, where he was responsible for leading the transition from Intel CPUs to Apple Silicon such as the M1 chip. Wilcox also played a significant part in the development of the T2 Security Chip, another piece of custom silicon that provides security features for older, Intel-based Mac computers.



“After an amazing eight years I have decided to leave Apple and pursue another opportunity,” Wilcox declared on his LinkedIn page. “It has been an incredible ride and I could not be prouder of all we accomplished during my time there, culminating in the Apple Silicon transition with the M1, M1 Pro and M1 Max SOCs...
