ASUS has announced that it will be releasing a new update for the ROG Ally that should prevent the device's SD card reader from malfunctioning "under certain thermal stress issues." Whitson Gordon, who shared the news on Discord, explained that the update will change the fan speeds of the device, and while no ETA was given, affected users have been advised to contact ASUS' customer service for RMA and repair. A video analysis from the CPPC TEK channel would suggest that the problem stems from the SD card reader being too close to the power delivery VRMs.
