VideoCardz has shared the first image of ASUS’ TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card. While NVIDIA hasn’t officially announced this new branch of Ampere yet (it’s expected to do so during CES 2021), what we do already know is that this particular GPU will feature somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,584 CUDA Cores—around 1,280 less than its stronger, Titanium-infused sibling. Contrastingly, this model features 12 GB of GDDR6 memory, which is 4 GB more than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti.

I simply do not understand putting more memory in lower tier cards. Is this to draw bitcoin miners? I seem to remember them being more interested in memory capacity and speed rather than processors....

It's one of the oldest tricks in the book. Basically, people think that RAM equates to speed. A card with more RAM is obviously faster than another one with less RAM. I used to see this all the time with cards like the FX 5200. Plenty of models had RAM that nearly matched the high end cards. Not that they were fast enough to do anything with it. But, they sold in droves.
