Battlefield 2042 Will Support Cross-Play, but Not between Console Generations

EA has confirmed that Battlefield 2042 will support cross-play, allowing players from different gaming platforms to compete against one another in the heavily anticipated shooter’s online matches. The company shared the news in a new Battlefield Briefing post on the official Battlefield 2042 website, clarifying that cross-play functionality would be coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and PS4 consoles. There’s one caveat, however: cross-play will not be possible between next-gen and last-gen consoles. That’s because Battlefield 2042 supports up to 128 players on PC and next-gen consoles, while the Xbox One and PS4 versions will be limited to 64-player games. EA and DICE will be testing Battlefield 2042’s cross-play functionality as part of a Technical Playtest slated for later this summer.
