Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 didn’t fare so well at the box office, but it’s still getting a sequel of sorts, albeit on a smaller screen.
As reported by Deadline, Amazon Studios is developing a new live-action Blade Runner series, one that will serve as a follow-up to the 2017 film starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. Dubbed Blade Runner 2099, the new series will presumably take place decades after Villeneuve’s film and reveal the fates of some of the franchise’s leading characters.
Ridley Scott, who directed the original 1982 sci-fi classic, is executive producing Blade Runner 2099, but sources suggest that he might be back in the director’s chair for some or all of the show’s episodes. Scott’s upcoming projects include Gladiator 2 and another Alien prequel, according to his IMDb page.
