CNN has announced a new streaming service called CNN+. Launching early next year, the subscription offering will complement the cable news giant’s existing television networks with original, live, on demand, and interactive programming. In addition to 8 to 12 hours of this live, daily programming, CNN+ will debut with an extensive library of programing that includes past seasons of CNN’s original series and films, such as Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy, This is Life with Lisa Ling, and United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell. CNN+ will be integrated into the current CNN app, allowing both CNN+ and traditional pay TV subscribers to access their content from a single place. The cost of CNN+ is reportedly still being decided.

I heard about this this morning. Basically, it's because their contracts with cable providers prevent them from streaming their existing content, so to work around that, they just created a new streaming service.

Not terribly interesting in it myself, but the part about the contractual obligations leading to this was semi-interesting - because otherwise they could just post their existing content online.
