Diablo II: Resurrected players are venting their frustrations over social media due to Blizzard’s apparent ineptitude at keeping the servers up for a remake of a 20-year-old game. Despite serious server issues over the weekend and emergency maintenance, many still say that they’re unable to log in to play Diablo II: Resurrected today. Blizzard has apologized for the “inconvenience.”

You can't really be surprised with how Warcraft III Reforged was released. No regrets deleting my Battle.net account.
 
My understanding is that items can be duplicated by transferring an item to another player, and having that player save and exit. Then DDoS the server you’re on and forcing it to lag out / crash - your character gets rolled back and your item returns. There are apparently some items going in the $1000+ range still, making the duplicating very profitable. Caveat - I say this based on discord discussions and have nothing from blizzard to back it up.
