In an interview with Eurogamer earlier this year, executive producer and head of the Diablo franchise at Blizzard Entertainment, Rod Fergusson, promised old-school Diablo fans that Diablo II: Resurrected would be a highly faithful remaster that would go so far as to include older multiplayer features such as TCP/IP support for LAN play.

Unfortunately, that no longer appears to be the case.

As pointed out by numerous Diablo fans on r/pcgaming, Blizzard revealed in its FAQ on Diablo II: Resurrected’s upcoming Early Access and Open Beta periods that TCP/IP Support has officially been dropped from the game. Blizzard explained that it had “identified potential security risks” and decided to omit TCP/IP support in order to safeguard the player experience.

While the company didn’t elaborate any further than that, the popular theory is that...

TCP/IP is a security risk. I think we all know this and accept some level of risk.

I guess Bliz just got the memo…

What are they going to do create their own network layer for security?

I kid we all know we will be signing into their service with a VPN like connection.

Battlenet or go home!

I'm sure they are just trying to figure out a way to monetize it.

Bliz ain't what she used to be. I expect this to suck as much as the W3 remaster did.

Yea inhave zero anticipation for this game. Personally I also think that remasters are nothing but a low effort cash grab for studios.

I like when they modernize an old game. Like allow higher resolutions, support for modern OS, support for modern networking and modern services. Things like that. For example trying to play the original Age of Empires 2, starcraft brood war, or Red Alert on windows 7 or 10 is annoying at best. But I agree, when they start doing things like remastering textures, videos, or models, I just dont care about any of that stuff. C&C Red Alert remastered is 20GB on steam, 15 of those is HD videos that I never watch (this is a game that originally came on 2 CDs ...)

I enjoy the updated graphics on top of all of the convenience that modernization brings. I’m uninterested in playing Diablo ii with the original graphics, but I’m completely pumped to play with updated graphics.
