DOOM Eternal Rips and Tears Franchise Record for Opening Weekend Sales, Beating 2016’s Reboot

id Software claimed that DOOM Eternal was the greatest game it had ever made, and early reception definitely reflects that sentiment. Glowing reviews aside, Bethesda announced that the game has earned the series’ best-ever opening week sales, double the launch-weekend revenue of 2016’s DOOM. (The publisher hasn’t given an exact figure yet, however.)



DOOM Eternal also launched to nearly 105,000 concurrent players on Steam. According to video game industry analyst Benji-Sales, that’s triple the all-time concurrent peak player record for 2016’s DOOM reboot.

I am not surprised. The game is excellent and being able to play it on a machine without the latest hardware is a plus for a lot of people. I believe the delayed release on this game actually helped.
