Elon Musk Is TIME Magazine’s 2021 Person of the Year

TIME Magazine has chosen the world’s richest man, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, as its 2021 Person of the Year.



Love him or hate him, Musk seems to fit the publication’s criteria for the title perfectly, which is based on an individual’s ability to make headlines and influence the news. Going beyond his more obvious successes such as leading the electric car industry and developments relating to space travel, Musk has also proven that he’s able to move entire markets with a single tweet, something that crypto investors know all too well.

I mean, he has certainly been influential, but it almost feels like his various business ventures have been successful in spite of his antics, not because of him.

He is a complete fool who shouldn't be leading anything at all.

I agree 100%

Maybe he really is a visionary genius and has some Jobs-esque way of bringing out the best in people. But I kinda doubt it - it feels more like he has got lucky rather than been good, as he's always just one step away from disaster in everything he's done so far.

Yep gotten lucky over and over and over again. At some point even if you dislike the man you must admit he does SOMETHING right. He strikes while the iron is hot and isn't afraid of losing everything.

He's good at playing the stonks, and good at taking advantage/exploiting grants and federal funding opportunities, and great at taking advantage of a labor force.

But he's always just one bad tweet or podcast away from his house of cards coming down.

Clearly he has no quality as a leader and no ability as a thought promoter at all. Obviously all he is is only negative because he has the most money. Right? Is that the theme here? I'm not saying the guy is a frigging saint but what billionaire didn't get there by maximizing profits?

The difference between Zuckerberg and musk musk makes actual products that impact every day citizens in material ways. Where as Zuckerberg offers a data only service the price being you gleefully parting with your privacy.

Excuse me, which recent ventures of his were actually successful? Tesla is grossly overvalued and a disaster waiting to happen when the market readjusts to the actual value of the company. Spacex in the verge of bankrupcy, or the boring company which claimed to be 10 times cheaper and faster, but actually managed to dig a tunnel 10 times slower for the same price as anyone else. Or the vaporware that is hyperloop, or solar shingles.

Like what? Tesla cars, that are trendy to own*, but actually built to standards like cheap korean cars used to be in the nineties, yet costing as much as luxury cars, thus only being viable for the upper crust. Apart from those, what products?

*well actually you don't really own them, you pay for them but it's still fully tesla who is in the driver seat.
