What happens when you offer one of Rockstar Games’s most popular titles free of charge? Hours of downtime from an influx of rabid users, of course.

Today, the Epic Games Store began offering Grand Theft Auto V at no cost, which resulted in a, well, epic stress test for the platform’s servers. While the website still seems to be down (it’s giving a 403 Forbidden error), the launcher seems to be up and running again for those who have been clicking and refreshing furiously for a chance to snag a free copy of the 2013 open-world hit.

HA.. that's actually kind of telling. They arn't quite ready for a true triple A title to be in high demand. I wonder how GOG will handle Cyberpunk 2077.

Borderlands 3 wasn't a AAA high demand title?

But yeah the freebie bum rush caught them off guard. Once the post hits the Slickdeals front page... web servers better hold on to their butts.

Combine that with the sale and it's not that surprising.
You get a new $10 coupon for every game you buy as well. I bought Control, Control season pass, Borderlands 3 and a little indie game called Huntdown and got an extra $10 off each one on top of the discounted price.
