A wrench has been thrown into the marketing gears of Intel's discrete GPUs and Odyssey graphics initiative. Chris Hook (Graphics and Visual Technologies Marketing Chief) and Heather Lennon (Sr. Manager, Digital Marketing, GFX), which Intel had originally snatched from AMD's Radeon Technologies Group, have revealed that they are exiting the company for an unnamed startup. There is speculation that Intel may not even bother finding replacements: TweakTown claims that 5,000 to 10,000 jobs are about to slashed.

We wish them both well and hope Intel can fill this hole quickly, the upcoming launches of Arctic Sound and Ponte Veccio were both likely under their purview. Given their deep histories in the graphics and PR/marketing world, it is going to be very interesting to see where they turn up. Good luck on your latest odyssey guys.

5 to 10k jobs is an insane number. What is it, the latest forced ranking evaluation... Bottom bracket getting cut?

Oh ok I thought these were long time Intel employees. ( Read it wrong).. I think its more worrying they basically just got hired, meaning they came, they saw... They left... When its a long time employee, it can mean many things, but less likely its a negative thing with the company.
Wonder what they saw...

Well, when you stock starts to tank, the surefire way to get profits back up is to slash overhead. And to companies with large workforces, that often starts with jobs. Intel employs over 100k.

I hate to see anyone lose their job, but Intel narrowing their strategic focus wouldn't be a bad thing for the company. I wouldn't be surprised to see the fab, communications, mobile, etc get spun off or sold off.
