Fractal has introduced two new versions of its acclaimed Torrent case for users who were hoping to get the base model’s aesthetics and excellent cooling performance in a smaller package. The Torrent Compact and Torrent Nano, which support up to E-ATX and mITX motherboards, respectively, are available beginning today in a range of color variants. They feature a stylish open-front grille and Dynamic PWM or Prisma ARGB PWM fans just like their larger sibling.

Those are sharp looking.

I have been tiring of my colossus of a Corsair 1000D, and have been casually thinking of moving to external cooling.

If I do, the E-ATX version would totally be on my short list, at least from an aesthetics standpoint.

Thogh it feels funny to call anything that fits an E-ATX board "compact".

Hmm.

That's a shame.

My E-ATX motherboard is 2.86mm too wide to fit in this case.

Makes me wonder if there is a safety margin in those numbers, and I might be able to squeeze it in, or what it gets caught on if it is too big, , if I can mod it a little (grind it with my dremel?) and paint over it to make it fit...

That said, I'm nowhere near embarking on my external cooling project. I'm just tossing it around in my head, but I have been VERY impressed by Fractal Design cases in the past. Build quality, fit and finish, etc. are second to none, and despite the fact that I am not a huge RGB fan, these cases are pretty too.

If I actually execute on my external cooling project, I'd love to be able to use one of these...

This is actually the same problem I've had with Fractal Design in the past. I bought a Fractal Define S to use for myself years ago, but I forgot to check motherboard fit, and my Asus P9X79 WS just didn't fit. It was a huge shame, because that case was one of the most impressively built I've ever owned. I wound up using it for my stepsons build instead, so it wasn't too bad.

Those new cases look pretty nice. I have the Torrent here, and it is decent case, but for some reason gathered more dust than any other case I've owned over a short period. Also the power supply is basically your top exhaust and it can be a little toasty during gaming sessions. I'm keeping it, but went back to my Corsair 5000X.
